Civilization 3 Download: Previously sold separately, the Play the World Expansion Pack is now included in the Gold Edition. There are eight new civilizations to choose from, four new online multiplayer game types, scenario creation tools, a wealth of new technology, infrastructure, and wonders, as well as a slew of new gadgets, systems, wonders, animations, and a streamlined user interface.
The release of Civilization III in 2001 was met with widespread acclaim, and the game went on to sell millions of copies around the world. Data pertaining to your progress in Civilization III and other settings are kept in the directory in which you installed the game. This is problematic because modern Windows versions’ default security settings forbid applications from saving data in the system files folder.
Changing the installation directory (to C: Games, for example) or reading the section labelled “Problems saving games and configuration documents” may help you fix this issue.
If you’re using a CD to play, you’ll need to download and install the latest patch first. If you want the latest version, 1.29, you can get it here. Free online Civilization 3 gameplay is available.
The repair is a zip file on your hard drive. Simply extract the files from the zip archive and run the tiny executable file contained within to get started with the installation. If during installation you are prompted to overwrite a critical file, select “Yes.”
When using the digital download via Steam, patching is handled automatically, so there is no need to take any further action after installation.
