Id Software and Activision released the first-person shooter video game Doom 3 in 2004. Originally released for Microsoft Windows on August 3, 2004, Destruction 3 has since been ported to Linux and Mac OS X. On April 3, 2005, Vicarious Visions released the Xbox version of the game.

Toward the end of the 21st century, a military-mechanical consortium has established a logical examination office on Mars, where Destruction 3 will take place. The Mars facility was attacked by demons and other evil forces after teleportation tests. In order to prevent the evil spirits from conquering Mars and en route to Earth, the player must use a space marine to battle their way through the base.
Destruction 3 is the first reboot of the Doom series, but it is presented in Doom RPG as a prequel to the main game. Destruction 3 uses the id Tech 4 game engine, which has been allowed for use by several engineers since November 2011 and is available under the GNU General Public License.
Destruction 3 is id Software’s most successful game to date, selling more than 3.5 million copies worldwide. Everything about it worked, from the fundamentals to the bottom line. Commentators were divided on how similar the gameplay was to the original Doom, which focused primarily on battling against enormous numbers of adversary figures. In April 2005, Nerve Software released the Resurrection of Evil expansion pack as a prequel to the game. A Doom 3 novelization series written by Matthew J. Costello was released in February 2008 under his name. For Android, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, Doom 3 was released in June 2015 and July 2019, respectively, while Doom 3: BFG Edition was released during the fourth quarter of 2012.
