Their elderly, helpless partners are represented by reimaginings of Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy from the main game. Both the Marionette (the Puppet) and the Balloon Boy, two additional new characters, are highlighted.

Just like in the main game, the player is cooped up in an office and has to complete tasks independently. While they are trapped inside, they can check in on the progress of the animatronics via a series of cameras strategically placed around the building. The workplace is accessible to animatronics via two air vents situated on opposite walls of a corridor. However, unlike the previous game, lights can be checked.

The player can avoid attacks from most characters by donning an animatronic cover; however, Foxy and the Marionette require different strategies. Every minute, Foxy needs an electric lamp to illuminate the foyer, and Marionette’s music box needs to be kept in working order via a live video feed from the player.

However, unlike the main game, the player is helpless against the enemy if their electric lantern battery runs out. Fear will overtake the player if they don’t take precautions against the animatronics, with the exception of Balloon Boy, who likes to show up in the player’s office and dim their spotlight.
