When the player is alone in an office, he or she is given access to a network of cameras that monitors various areas of the restaurant. To keep track of how the animatronics are progressing during the night, these feeds are used. The creation of each animatronic figure is unique, and most of this development occurs off-screen. The images the camera captures are blurry and dark, while one security camera in the kitchen only transmits sound. To the right and left of the player, there are two foyers that need to be checked by lights that can be accessed by clicking a catch next to each doorway in their workplace. In order to be safe, the player must click catches near each doorway to close the doors, as they are unable to leave the workplace.

There are five “evenings” throughout the game, and each one becomes worse. It is possible to adjust the AI difficulty of the animatronic characters in the seventh “custom evening” after finishing the first six nights of gameplay.
