The game features both a survival mode and a sandbox mode. The player must first create a character that can survive as long as possible in either Muldraugh or the military installation in historiographer County before attempting survival in either location.

In sandbox mode, players are free to experiment with the game’s various systems by modifying variables like the number of zombies, the weather, and the number of items in the world.

In addition to the standard “survival” gameplay, the game also features a variety of “challenging” situations. Among these is a mode called “last stand,” in which the player must defend themselves from waves or a constant stream of zombies in order to earn money. After settling on a character’s appearance, the player must pick a profession, each of which has its own benefits and drawbacks.

A point value is assigned to each attribute regardless of whether it is a positive or negative trait. At the start of the game, every player gets eight attribute points that can be spent on positive or negative characteristics (if the fired occupation option is selected). The player must have a score of 0 in order to remain in the game.
