Tomohiro Nishikado created it in 1978 for arcades. The game was made and distributed by Taito in Japan, and Bally’s Midway division in the United States had a license to sell it. The foundation of the shoot ’em up genre can be traced back to the original fixed-shooter, Space Invaders. The objective of this game is to use a moving laser on a flat surface to destroy as many sliding outsiders as possible in order to gain as many focus points as possible.

Space Invaders was an instant hit, grossing $3.8 billion in 1982 (over $13 billion today) and netting $450 million in profit. This was the highest-grossing video game of all time and the highest-earning “diversion item” at the time.
Space Invaders is widely hailed as one of gaming’s all-time greatest hits. As a result, the video game industry grew and the golden age of arcade video games was born. It has served as an inspiration for many different types of computer games and game developers, and has been redistributed in many different forms. The Atari VCS model from 1980 saw sales increase by a factor of four, making it the de facto standard bearer for home computer game consoles at the time. It doesn’t help that the pixelated enemy outsider has become a ubiquitous icon in video games.
As a fashion designer, Nishikado looked to sci-fi classics like The War of the Worlds and Star Wars, as well as more recent works like Breakout and Gun Fight, for inspiration. In order to finish the game’s improvement, he had to plan specialized hardware and advancement tools.
